Biography

Mette Kierkgaard is Minister for Senior Citizens since 15 December 2022. She holds a PhD in Political Sociology and a Master’s in Public Management. She has recently been in charge of carrying out a comprehensive reform in the field of older people that focuses on local delivery, increased self-determination for older people, and more trust in care managers and employees, and management in the care sector for older people.

The Minister will address the recent reform of the Danish care sector for older people. The reform is centred around the individual person and aims to create more autonomy for them and better working conditions for care staff. Thus, one of the initiatives of the reform is to increase the use of welfare technology in the sector. This can create both more autonomy for the individual person and free up time for care staff to focus on the task at hand, which is to provide the best and most dignified care for older persons.
