Biography

Nathalie leads the DG REFORM Directorate that provides strategic support to growth enhancing reforms in the Member States in the context notably of the national recovery and resilience plans, economic semester recommendations, flagship or multi-country initiatives. Nathalie’s Directorate also leads policy developments on public administration and governance.

Prior to taking up this position in May 2021, Nathalie worked as a Head of Unit at DG FISMA where she led several regulatory reforms in response to the great financial crisis. As Deputy Director, she was in charge of Banking Regulation and Supervision, representation at the Basel Committee and the European Banking Authority. Between 2015 and 2019, Nathalie oversaw Insurance and Pensions, with responsibilities covering the Solvency II review, consumer insurance, motor insurance and occupational pension funds. A major achievement was the EU/US Covered Agreement on insurance and reinsurance. Beforehand, Nathalie led the reform of statutory audit and the regulation of credit rating agencies, since 2012.

Nathalie joined the European Commission in 2000, mainly responsible for the development of Commission implementing powers in the field of financial services. She was a member of the Commission Task Force on the Future of the European Union and an advisor to the Commission representatives at the European Convention and Intergovernmental Conference 2002-2004. She also worked as an expert in company law and corporate governance, and as a Deputy Head of Unit in charge of interinstitutional Relations and policy coordination.

Nathalie started her career in academia, as researcher and lecturer, and worked as free-lance consultant for a banking group.

A French national, she holds a Ph.D. Doctorate in Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Politics. She is the author of several articles and a book on European law and policies. Nathalie is a Knight of the French Legion of Honor.
