Biography

Peter acts as an advisor and consultant for CGI and sits on the company’s Health and Care Advisory Board. He is the former Chief Executive Officer for the Care Inspectorate, Scotland’s national inspection agency for social work, social care and early years services. In this role Peter was part of a number of leadership groups within Scottish government and worked with Scottish Ministers, senior civil servants and key partner agencies to discharge the responsibilities of the role. He also became the chair of the European regulators network, SINC, and the chair of the UK and Ireland Inspectorates CEO’S forum, prior to retiring.

Prior to this, in 2007, Peter held the position of Director of Social Work in Renfrewshire Council and in 2014 he became the Director of Children’s Services. He was elected President of the Association of Directors of Social Work in 2012. In this earlier role he led significant work in relation to the integration of health and care services in Scotland. Peter continues to be engaged in consultancy work in the UK and abroad. He most recently led a national review in Malta, working with the European Social Network, in relation to services provided by the Maltese government’s Foundation for Social Welfare Services.

Peter remains passionate about always trying to make a positive difference to the lives of people who need care and support. He believes collaboration is key to making this difference, in particular listening to the voices of those with lived experience so that services can be designed to be as responsive as possible to their needs.
